GAPPED TEETH

Do gaps between teeth bother you?

Even though they typically do not cause health problems, having small gaps between your teeth can cause food to get stuck in those gaps and make it difficult to maintain dental hygiene.  But many people with those gaps tend to feel self-conscious and embarrassed about themselves.  If you are one of those, please be reminded that with or without those gaps, you will always look more attractive with a smile.  But if those gaps prevent you from smiling, we can help.

There are three possible solutions to consider: (1) composite bonding, (2) porcelain veneer, or (3) Invisalign treatment.  Sorry for the fancy words; let me explain.

BONDING
“Composite bonding” is quite similar to “white fillings.”  I would simply use the same material that we use to fill the cavity from tooth cavity, except that in this case, it’s not a cavity.  I glue (or bond) the white material on your tooth to fill the space between your teeth.  The white material is a mixture of plastic and glass.  This is a good option if you just have one or two space to cover.

VENEERS
When you have several gaps in your front teeth, it would be better to consider the porcelain veneer.  This treatment is like placing a crown over your teeth, except that the veneers only cover the front surface of your teeth, not the entire tooth structure like the crowns do.

BRACES
While you may only concern about how your teeth look, we dentists also have to consider how well you bite and chew.  The gaps that you have may be due to a problem with proper spacing of all of your teeth.  In those cases, the better treatment may be bracing.  Nowadays you don’t necessarily need those bracing with wires; you may be a candidate for the clear bracing called “Invisalign.”

Well, which treatment is best for you?  It’s hard to say without taking a look at all your teeth and how you chew.  You are always welcomed to come by my office, allow me to take a look to give you an honest answer.  I offer free consultation on such matter.  We love to see you smile.  Don’t let those gaps stop you from smiling.  Cheers.
